Hi ,
I am thinking about finishing a bathroom in the basement. The roughin leaves a 4 in pipe 12 inches from the wall for the toilet and 1.5 inch pipe out of the wall for the sink. What I don't get is there is a 6 in pipe standing at 12 inches out of the concert capped and a another 2 inch capped beside it in the floor in a 12 by 12 cutout in the concret, anyone know what these pipes are for : )

Any chance of a picture? 6" pipes are not found normally in residential plumbing. The 12x12 cut out is likley for you tub/shower trap.

Sorry no digital , you I kind figured the cutout was for the shower . The other, if I remove the cap at the bottom interior of the exposed pipe there is another screw cap? Could this be a cleanout

I doubt that this would be a clean out because it sounds like this will be covered once the bathroom is finished, right? Screwed on caps are usually clean out though.

You were correct the 2" capped is a tub dap out but could be used to pick up a shower. The 6" is a recessed clean out. When you finish the floor You may tile over it and install a clean out where it should go. 18" off the foundation on the main and brought up to grade. Good luck. Tom
