Her landlord got mad at her and raised the rent from 1,100 a month to 1,700 a month because she was not home when her 13 year old step- son came home from school. He was yelling and cursing at her told her that was child abuse and he was going to raise the rent. So she took her rent money that was due that week and found a new place. Now she is moving and she needs to know what he did was right or wrong. The landlord also keeps coming in and out of the house while they are moving their stuff from one place to another. If she was on a month to month rental, then he can raise the rent as high as he wants with 30 days written notice. But, she's moving anyway.

As excon noted, with a month to month lease, the landlord can raise the rent with a one month notice. Though a 50% increase may run afoul of some local laws.

The LL also has a right to inspect the premises.
