View Full Version : Can a "power surge" damage a cd when it is in a cd player?

The other day I plugged the power bar (tv, dvd player, cd player) into the wall socket and I herd a cracking sound. When I turned my cd player off (the off button is the same as the cassette tape button) after listening to a cd, the power was still on, it seemed like the player was playing a cassette tape. 2 days later the player was OK, kind of like a power surge or something happened, so my question is, is the cd OK or do you think it was damaged? I don't care about the cd player since it is 10 years old. Thanks for you help!

Try it, should be OK, Light reads the disc, and there is no contact. If Player can Burn, then possibly it can.

A CD is an optical device, an electrical power surge would not affect it.
