Hi I have two dogs and have just not long moved to a new house. The carpet is badly needing to be replaced. My dilemma is that I would love laminate or wooden flooring, however, do not know how safe it is for dogs to walk on. The youngest dog had hip displasia in both her hips when a puppy and has had both hips replaced now for 4 years. Any opinions would be welcome to enable me to make a sensible decision. Not sure if this question is in the right place:confused: Should have said, my concern is as to whether dogs slide on laminate or wooden flooring which could result in accidents!

I think dogs do have a harder time on laminate or woof flooring when running, or coming down off stairs. We have some wood floors mostly ceramic tile on first level .Laminate and carpet upstairs. We have a lot of area rugs for the wood and laminate areas. My dog seems to get around fine. Except when I pull the rugs up to clean then he's like bambi on ice. I love the look of the wood floors personally but area rugs are a must. Of course this is only my opinion. I do have a nine year old dog with hip displasia.

There was an extensive discussion of laminate and dogs at https://www.askmehelpdesk.com/interior-home-improvement/laminate-flooring-dogs-145875.html

My 14 year old does just fine on our floor. Many of our younger visitors take a while to adjust. The older ones seldom push themselves to where they have problems. I think a carefully selected laminate or hardwood will be fine.

We have laminate and our dog has no problem with it and I love it. It doesn't scratch and you can get it really clean, rather than wondering what is in the carpet after you've vacuumed it.
