I am an aunt of my two year old niece and I need some advice quick! On June 6, 2007 my sister passed away unsuspectdly and left behind her two year old daughter, she got very ill and me and my husband were taking care of her until she passed, we took her daughter and took care of her , my niece's father was incarcerated at the time and had been prior to that for about ten months and then got out on Aug. 11, 2007 for drug charges, he was fine with her staying with me and my husband and said we were the best people to have her and now is changing his mind and wants her solely. I don't feel like he can take care of her properly due to the fact, he has never really taken care of her since she was born, my sister was her sole provider, financially, emotionally, physically, he has been to jail before that for about 7 years for attempted murder charges, is there any way I can win soel custody of my niece being just her aunt. Me and my husband seem to be the only family fighting for her well being, her grandmother which is my mom is in no situation to care for her either due to her pass criminal record. I Love my niece and just want to provide a stable home for her and I feel me and my husband can do that, we have no children and are both 27 years old and financially stable to provide for her. And did I forget to mention her father is a illegal immigrant and not suppose to be here in the united states , he lost his citizenship when he went to jail for 7 years for the attempted murder charge. Help!!
