 What's the trick to stop those after dinner sweet cravings?

I am not fat and have no problems about eating during the day, however after dinner, I can't help but go without dessert. I NEED dessert, and I need a LOT of it.
Even though I am no where near over weight, I can tell that this habit is not healthy and beneficial, especially in the long run.
So is there a trick? To stop the sweet cravings?

When I know I shouldn't eat any sweets, I just brush and floss my teeth and use mouthwash and that discourages me because I know it will taste awful with the toothpaste/mouthwash taste in my mouth. XD

Chars reply is how I started to break my sweets cravings.
Then I found out that sweet cravings mean you lack protein and vegetables.
The more you eat protein and vegetables the less you crave the sweets.
The more we eat a specific food, the more we want it. We learn to develop a taste for sugary or salty food. The more we eat it, the more we need it. It is all about habits we have acquired over the years. The body becomes conditioned to crave for these foods.
When you have sweets cravings try to replace it with something more healthy like if you want chocolate try drinking hot cocoa. Rich dark chocolate and cocoa actually have lots of antioxidents. When you are hungry for pies try eating fruit. Find healthier substitutes for your cravings.
