I have a john deere 160 lawn tractor that won't start. Was running great. Next time zi went to use it, it wouldn't start. Pulled the plug it didn't look bad but I replaced it anyway. Still no start. Checked and no spark. Bought a new coil still nothing. Gap is good on the plug and the coil. Nothing not spark nothing

Did you install the coil correctly, there is a notation of either, "cyl side", "cylinder side", or "this side up" embossed onto the coil body. If you install it incorrectly, you probably ruined it. If you did install and gap it properly you could have a kill wire issue. Check where the small black wire runs to from the coil and see if it has any naked places in the insulation. Also check at the throttle control bracket assembly to see if the kill wire is connected to the insulated post. If the wire is naked, or the end is touching a grounding point, the engine will not fire.

Check to see if any of the safety switches have a broken wire or loose connection.
