After Being Placed On Probation For A Year I Am Having Trouble Meeting The Financial Obligations Of The Probation. Can The Court Help Or Should I Just Go To Jail?

I would petition the court, to explain the circumstances. If the court knows you are trying to meet your financial obligations and can't, then it will know you are concerned and trying. The court might be able to suggest some type of employment to help you.

Although the Probation Officer may have a little leway as to the time frame that the fines and fees are paid, ultimately, the judge ordered it to happen so it had better happen. If your attorney files a motion and goes before the judge concerning this matter, they can usually buy you some time but you must decide if paying an attorney is worth it. Another scenario would be that the Court has a collection agency they do business with and that will end up costing you more in the long run. If there is any way possible, get the money and pay them off. You will sleep better for it!

I would get a job flipping burgers if I had to. Once you violate, your probation will probably get extended, you'll have more costs and fines, you'll have lost whatever job you have, and will diminish your chances for getting another one AFTER you get out...

And, you'll still owe the money.

One year of probation could turn into five years very easily, with a lot of short stints in the slam.

Yes, I would get a second or third job, no matter what it is.

You can perhaps get an extenstion but your probation and I am sure added probation costs will continue and continue.

If you are trying to pay, the probation officer has some (not a lot) of say in getting your violated ( picked up) but then you sit in jail waiting a probation hearing, then they extend it maybe, and you are worst off than you were.

Thank you all for the excellent advice,to catch you up I went to the clerk and my probation officer and worked out a deal that allows me to pay a reduced payment as long as I satisfy the probation conditions which I'm doing, so far so good.I'm almost there.Thanks again,I'll keep you posted.:cool: ;)

You went about it in the proper way and they worked with you. Good! Now, just keep a good attitude and decide to complete this probation and you will. As long as you are trying they will work with you. A probation officer likes to release people from their case loads. Would you want 300 people on your load or 100 which is so much easier to work. So, what do you do to your probationers who continued to deny they did anything wrong- kind of like you're doing? Isn't it good to admit that you've done wrong when you get caught? So, instead of admitting your mistake, and moving on, you denigrate me, as though I had something to do with your being a cheater. Nope, you did that all by yourself.

So, why is it, that probation officers and cop want to be's and prison guards, don't think they need to obey the rules? You're better than us? Please, elucidate us.

As a prison Guard I looked all around me and saw some pretty RAW deals but if I spoke out I was a dissenter. That's just the way the world works.
