How do you fix a 'locked-up' disposal?

Have you checked to see if there is a reset button on your unit?

If, when you turn it on, it just hums at you then chances are that you have something, pop top. Kitchen utensil,etc. caught between the table and the disposal wall. The owners manual advises you to insert a special wrench in the bottom of the unit and attempt to move the table. I don't get enough leverage that way. Take a broom stick and insert it in the desposal against the cutter blade and start to lever the table counter clockwise. Once it starts to turn feel down on the table for the trash that was locking up the table and remove it. Good luck, Tom
