Hi, I'm trying to identify a plant I saw growing in someone's yard. It is maroon in color - the whole thing, about 6' tall, with a striking red plume-type flower. The leave are huge- probably 12" across, and resemble a red maple tree in color and shape. I don't know if it is an annual, perennial, or simply a beautiful weed. Thanks!

Sounds like a castor bean plant which are quite poisonous but very popular, a perennial.

Thanks! That was quick! It's exactly what I saw. Got to get some. Suppose I should keep the pets away from it though... wonder if deer would eat it?

I am glad we were able to help.
They grow abundantly in Cemetries where I am at.
You could try a local Garden shop.
Good luck!
