The points on the pressure switch "stick together" and then the pump will not run. This is happening quite frequently. It all started after we had been gone from the house for some time. Now, I was in the shower and noticed the pressure reducing & my hubby went out and tapped on the pressure switch and it "kicked on". What is making the points stick together? Is there anything I can do to make the points Not Stick together? Can I spray with something like WD40?
I really hope someone can help me with this problem. We have lived here for 10 years and this is always a problem. This pump is inside the garage so it is not exposed to weather. We live in Florida. This is the 2nd pump in the system. We added a aeration tank outside and it has a pump also. It seems there is always some problem with a pump.
TIA for your help.

It is time to replace the worn out pressure switch, about 20 bucks at menards. Either they are sticking open or if stuck together they are not making good contact.

You may clean and dress the contacts but the best advice is what Wheels gave you. Simply replace the pressure switch. Good luck, Tom

I have only had this pump for about 2 years and it sits inside the garage so it is not out in the weather. Why has the switch worn out so quickly? Is this normal? Growing up we had a well system and I don't remember this problem ( & my dad made us help him with all his projects)! Oh well, $20 is no problem for peace of mind. Just curious, I'm too curious. THANK YOU ALL for your help! :D Rose

Who knows why contacts arc and weld themselves together. Perhaps your pump motor's drawing more amps then it should putting the load back on the contacts every time they oipen and close. The point is it needs to be replaced. You might also check the pump motor to see how many amps it's pulling at start up. Good luck, Tom

Thank you for your replies. Is it possible for you to "walk me thru" how to check the motor for the amp draw? I have a small multimeter although I really don't know how to use it.
TIA Rose

A multi meter won't get it You'll need a Amp-Probe for that. Mine handles any where from 6 amps to 300. Regards, Tom
