I have a 15 yr old chow, in fairly good health for her age, who has recently started a hotspot on her hind leg. She has gotten them over the years, but this one seems to be bothering her worse. I have used different sprays for hot spots on it, including one called Hot Spot SPray. It seems to help for awhile, then she starts biting at it all over again. I'm giving her benedryl for the itching. I'm new to the area and haven't found a vet. I've never had one so persistent before. I just read that I could put some baby powder on it to help soothe it, but, I'm afraid to do anything to make it worse. I also have some antimicrobial wound cream, but, again, am afraid to do anything to make it worse. Any suggestions out there would be appreciated. Thanks, Sue

I don't see much in the way of hot spots, but my puppy raising manual does mention them. ''Clean the area with hydrogen peroxide and apply a hydrocortisone ointment. Clip the hair around the area if necessary. Try to prevent your puppy from licking the area by using a T-shirt. If there is no marked improvement in 2 days, see your vet.''
