Okay I have a cast iron vertical drain from a shower in my basement and it started to leak in a joint, I have read some of the other questions on this site about cast iron and I am confused:confused: , it sounds complicated

Anybody have a relatively easy and cheap fix for this.

Yep there is a way to fix this but our plumber isn't online this late. He'll get to you in the AM. Is the joint filled with lead and oakum?

Sure do Greg, All you have to do is recaulk the lead joint. Rent, or borrow, a set of inside and outside caulking irons. Take the inside caulking iron, ( the one with the bevel looking out) and caulk the inside of the pipe using enough strength to mark the lead well, but not strong enough to crack the cast iron bell. Do the same with a outside iron, ( the one with the bevel looking in.). You have just caulked a lead joint. Good luck, Tom
