I live in California I am being sued by a credit card company and I was wondering what can happen from here? Can they garnish my wages take my cars and house :( ? I can't afford a lawyer and there are a lot of codes on the papers I have been served that I don't understand. Please Help.

Don't know California law but that being said the worst thing you can do is NOT answer the papers - call your local Bar Association, see if they have a list of Attorneys who will help in a situation like this. My feeling is if you own a house they might tell you to retain counsel. Yes, they can garnishee your wages; usually they don't bother attempting to seize property, including real estate, but they can lien against your house. That means if you ever sell they take what they are owed off the top of the proceeds.
