Today, we changed our kitchen sink. We drained the system, connected new taps,sink. Put water back on - first time ever no leaks. So off for a bath! We have no hot water.Having connected the cold valve on the washing machine to the valve on the hot water tap etc. we had a small amount of hot water only for it to dry up. We then went up into loft to find that the cold tank is not filling up. How do we get the water into the tank. The mains water is rnning lovely. I hope someone knows the answer, because we have no idea! And five babies wanting bathing! ::

You need to make yourself more clear on what you did when you started to do this work. Did you turn off any valves? Are you on a well? Why is there a water tank in the loft?

We turned off the stopcock in the kitchen by the sink, turned the immersion tank off,then turned on the hot taps until water ran out. We then replaced the sink and taps, and turned the water back on at the stopcock. Later we turned the water back on-we have a baxi back boiler which controls both heating and heats the immersion tank. At first we thought the lack of hot water was due to the tank having to fill up first- but later when needing the hot water we found it would not come through. We used the washing machine technique to blow out an airlock, the water did run for a about a minute, a lot of muck and discoloured water. On looking in the loft above the immersion heater we checked the cold water cisturn-no new water is coming into this. We are not sure if any water is coming through to immersion heater as water in the tank looked like the little bit of water that came through the tap. This is a new heating/water system to us as we are in a new house and there was no manuel left about the boiler/heating/hot water. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Kanty

This tells me you've disturbed minerals built up in the pipe walls and now it's clogging your system. The solution to this would be to open up and flush out your system. You may need to call in outside help to do this. Good luck, Tom
