There was a long and recent discussion a short time back.

Hello z:

Yes, we've discussed this many times. But, I love to argue, so let's go again.

Yes, of course we should. They're the only democracy in the Middle East and they are our friend.

Or, do you think the Palestinian terrorists are our friends?

Yes we should. We should support Israel, because unlike most other countries we support financially and militarily, Israel gives good value for the dollars we spend there. They are a major trading and economic partner. (The computer you are typing on was probably partially developed in Israel.) They are a major military ally. (It is the only safe port for our Navy in the entire Middle East. They also give us basing rights, flyover rights, a place to store ordinance, intelligence sharing, etc.) And they are a democracy that believes in freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, etc. (As opposed to most other countries that we give aid to that are dictatorships, mullacracies, socialist/communist entities, or are run by bloodthirsty warlords.)

In short, Israel is the only "investment" in financial aid for which the USA gets its money's worth.
