View Full Version : Reducing blower speed

I have a Goodman ar60 airhandler with electric heat. The unit works great except that the blower is very noisy. The instructions say that I can reduce the RPM by switching the black wire with the red one on what looks to be a relay.
There are 4 wires coming from the blower. White, brown, red and black. The black is connected to the relay and the red is laying there with an insulator on it. I replaced the black with the red but, it still ran at the same speed.
I'm wondering if I am doing this correctly?

Thanks, Arney

First question back to you... when you changed the motor speed wire, did you put the access door back on your blower unit? If not, you may not be able to tell that the fan really slowed down, being that the blower unit had full access to more air to move with the door off, and would "free run" itself.

First, thanks for your quick response. No, I didn't put the door (panel) back on. I'm going to try that today and will let you know how it owrks.

tsa7man, You were right on. It's much more quiet. Thanks again.
