Help please! I have been living in this house for 2 years and all of a sudden in the past 4 months or so, I have seen this black shadow figure peeping and looking at me from the corner of my bedroom door in the hallway, it is there long enough for me to see it, I can't see any eyes, but it is a human figure, but completely black and like a shadow. Ok firstly is there anything beside your doorway that could cast a shadow like that?
(That would be the logical explanation) However, has anything significant happened in the last four months to perhaps have caused a disturbance in your house?

No, there is nothing there to create a shadow, I have checked that out, and also nothing has happened.

No no one has died in the house, and it was built in the late 50's. Also thanks to the info on the shadow people.

It's obviously a shadow of some sort created by something either in your room or in the hallway. The brain is very good at finding familiar shapes in abstract images. Just look at all the faces and things you can see in the clouds. This is especially true if you are in a groggy or sleepy state as one would expect in a bedroom.

Try altering the light source in your bedroom and/or kitchen. Close or open a shade, or another door. Trust me... It's nothing paranormal.

It is now several months since you first asked your question, so I'm wondering if you found an answer. I'd like to tell you that when I was a child (30 years ago), I saw the shadow thing (it was short with a cape and hat) cross in front of my bedroom door and into the bathroom almost every night. I also had a floating lady in my bedroom corner wall. Since adulthood, I have tried to convince my parents of this experience, and they brush it aside, and think I am crazy. The floating lady did not scare me, but the shadow figure did. One night when it was passing my door, I decided I was going to put it out of my mind, and I rolled over to face the wall in bed. A few seconds later, I had a very strong, painful punch in the middle of my back with what felt like a rounded fist. I continued to ignore it and pretend to be asleep because I was so scared. I never saw the thing again after that night. I'd suggest you ignore it and try to put it out of your mind. It may get angry, but then will probably go away. Don't let anyone convince you it is all just in your imagination--they are definitely real. I think the more aware you are of them, the more likely you will see one. I don't talk about this to anyone now. I'm in a professional career with an MBA, and live in an upscale neighborhood, married with children. I can see the look I would get if I ever told anyone in my social circle now of these things. I just hope my children don't ever have to suffer the same thing. If they do tell me they see these things though, I will believe them!

I can't say whether they are demonic, but I do know it scared me as a child. NOhelp4u posted that shadow people wear fedora hats. I reviewed some fedora hats on line, and the hat I saw it wearing was definitely in a similar shape to a fedora hat.

I had the same thing happen to me on a camping trip in the u.p I was laying in the camper and I looked up and right in front of me there was a tall black human figure of a man... no face... with a round hat.I thought I was just seeing things until I told my boyfriends mother about it ,she told me the same thing happened to her years ago she described the very same thing that I seen huh that was crasy.his mother told me that they had a spirit in the house at one time and that they had it cleansed ,but I think there's a spirit that still follows the family. This is interesting, I'm now lookn this up and found this site. Im 22 from Dearborn Michigan. I often see these Shadow figures myself at night but outside. Couple occasions, One I was going to hangout with my friend for a bit when he got off work, but he gets off late. So to buy some time I grabd some food right quick, from mcdounalds. I parked on a sidestreet with houses, Jus to eat right quick. Pretty Late out, I glance up lookn out the windshield, I see this Shadow figure of a person, walkn across the road. But its super quick, like a split second then its gone. Then I often find myself sayn to myself, Did I really see that? Its like they cut in then cut out. THERE WAS NO ONE AROUND TOO, I meen it was really late and dark. The Best thing you can do is ignore it, like I do. I've told my friends while hangn out with them, that I see them, even while at night with them I often see them. I see some , hear random things now and then,I'm the only one up too... but myself I ignore it. The best thing u can do is not acknowledge it. I've seen shadow figures outside usually though at night, and now figure that I'm actually seeing somthn sense I've seen them more then 3 occasions.

I also had a similar dream, Of someone Chokin me in my dream some figure while I was in bed. Then I rolled off the bed on to the floor, and continued to choke the figure back in my dream. I woke up layn the way I was in the dream. But Clinching my covers tight and close to my face in a choking way. After that I didn't go back to sleep.

When I see the shadow people I don't see them very long though.. its like a split instance. I don't know if that's how you've all seen them. I think the one I saw while eating was wearn a top hat also.

Hi my name is Leo. These SHADOWS feed upon emotions like fear, rage etc. but mostly upon fear. The best way of getting rid of them is to ignore them like Aviator008 already said. If you acknowledge them it will be much more difficult to lose them. Even if they hurt you it's better to ignore them. By hurting you they mostly just try to get your attention. These things consist of negative or black energy. They are half demonic, but that's not important. To maintain themselves they need to feed like humans either. For humans its food and water for them everything bad. So just ignore them, don't let them frighten you. Sooner or later they will disappear, but not completely. I guess that you will still see them even if you ignore them, at least they will not stick to you.

Hmm. This is a tricky one. Not all spirits that appear black or dark to us are bad, nor are all those who appear glowy and white to be absolutely trusted as all good. Makes me wonder if there's an NAACS--National Association for the Advancement of Colored Spirits? ;)

Anyway, there are any number of ways from any number of cultural pathways to spiritually cleanse a house, and wrap it up in positive energy so that unless spirits have the highest best intention for you they are kept away. I would start by saying trust your intuition as to how best to perform such a ritual--it doesn't have to be elaborate, so long as you hold your intention very strongly. You might be most comfortable with something from the traditions of your own heritage and your own ancestors. You could also ask a professional shaman/medicine worker/spiritualist to check it out, but like any profession there are good ones and bad ones.

It is correct as mentioned in one of the previous answers that some spirits feed on human fear and pain. Makes you wonder where J. K. Rawling does the research for her novels, right? If any spirit tries really hard to act scary and make you afraid of it, that's a dead giveaway that the spirit is a total wuss that is itself deficient in energy and is trying to trick you into giving it some of yours. One good puh-lease look in its direction is usually enough to let it know you aren't going to fall for that.

Number one, don't be afraid of them. Number two, don't confront them or try to deal with them unless you know what you are about--there are some powerful critters out there. Use prayer and ritual from your own faith tradition, calling upon God as you understand the divine, and calling upon your ancestors, guardian angels, patron saints, or even a dog or cat you have whom you feel to be strong and wise. But it wouldn't hurt to check in with a local person with some training.

Do I take it you live in South Carolina? Not sure what resources you might have out there. Out here in Oregon, last bastion of hippiedom, there are almost as many spirituality shops as there are Starbucks outlets. You can find any number of places selling crystals and candles and what not, often with a wise witchy woman running the place who can give you some pointers. If you can't find anybody, drop me a line. I know a good professional shamanic practitioner here, but he has a website and works with people long distance, too. In shamanic space, South Carolina isn't so far away.

My intuition just won't let this one rest. It seems important to me that various people have seen these shadows around. For some reason I don't think they are the ghosts of deceased humans. They may be kin to those spirits who hang at the edges of human life, feeding on the scraps of energy we let fall. Or they may be something completely different: You may have heard of the quantum universes theory, that each choice we make creates two parallel universes, one where the choice went one way, and one the other? It is certain our world is coming to the cusp of a great transformation, and perhaps that is causing the veils of possibility to thin, so that we glimpse people in other earths as shadows, just as they see us.

In any event, it bears investigation. I will look into it, and also mention it to the wisest and most magickal people I know, and report back if we discover anything interesting.

You need not worry when you see them do you got any kind of feeling from them? Like of course your going to be scared but when you see them do you feel like they are evil or do you feel nothing from them?

Have you ever had anyone really close to you die because that could explain it very well... If not then the spirit could like you enough to protect your young it just may think that it's for the best and I wouldn't do anything to make it angry you could thank it but then it may leave it just probably feels like you need to be protected

Then perhaps its someone you don't know its nothing new to get shadow figure that merely stands there and watches really its matter of the feelings you get from them you said once before that you know they don't mean harm I do believe that was you but and not to get you worried or anything and I highly Highly doubt but it could be protecting you... Thank you and I will look for Alder oh and as for the revnovations yes there have been a lot... I hate it but have no say in anything so I know that most shadow figures had come from the renovations

I think it is a ghost I believe in them, I don't know if you do but its possible they are ghosts.if you want them to go you could try asking out loud for them not to bother you anymore and sorry if you have done something wrong, I hope this helps

Yeah that's one of those shadow people. I started seeing it when I was about 13-14 and it continued until I was about 19. It came back when I was 26. People around me will see it too. Just recently related things have started to occur which led me to posts like this. I was amazed when I found out how many other people saw this. I thought it was only me. Do a Google. Read some stories. You'll start to believe that what you saw was real and you're not alone.

I love reading shadow people posts. My hubby has taken 3 separate pics of a shadow in our house. I feel very lucky to have them. I'm going to make the best one a 5x7 print to frame and add it to our family pictures on the wall since they are here all the time just like family. Heck who knows... maybe they are! :) Patti

Well it was not until recently that all of this came up
But all the people who have seen the figures
Saw them when they were younger kids
And seemed to have blocked it out
Or just didn't remember...

But I kind of unlocked all these suppressed memories in my friends
And this is how I did it, all children between the ages of 4 - 10
(give or take a few)
Who have seen this figure, have had an imaginary friend
And in all cases this friend was really nice to them
Always there when they needed them
But after a while the friend would become mean,
Creepy, obsessed, and would start telling these children to do things, bad things.
The way that these children outgrew these friends was to block out those memories
Of what had happened between the two.

A few of my closer friends have seen the figure again as teens, and have told me about it.
Another similarity in children that age whether they have had a imaginary friend or not is that they have had reoccurring pulling dreams, and my definition of a pulling dream is this...

In this type of dream, the dreamer will be trying to accomplish a goal -simple or complicated- and that goal may change in the middle of the dream, pending upon the pull of some mysterious force, person, or creature. In these dreams often the dreamer never accomplishes their set goal, and the dream ends in their death, or they awake before death.

After talking about this to many people, I found that many people who I associate with everyday have had these reoccurring pulling dreams, had an imaginary friend, and had seen the figure at least once in their life, and in some cases the figure had appeared to an individual in their sleep.

And finally the reason this all ties up to me...
All of the original people I asked I had known for at least 4 years
A few I have known for 7 years
But the one that scares me the most is that
My brother, my sister, and my mother have all seen it when they were younger

I'm not so much anymore, but for a while I was obsessed with finding out as much as possible about the figures, now I think I will take these things as I go.

I know that I might not be able to help but maybe this may help calm your senses. The next time that you see this shape at your door try to see if you can guess the height of the person. If it is small maybe it could be a young child that is just trying to play with you or look over the new guest. And the woman, maybe a family member that has died to check up on you? Other wise I truly can't help you out. I hope this may calm your senses.

I have also had an encounter with a shadow figure but only once but it was in mid daylight. What these things are with being completely honost I don't know. But what I do know whether they are other humans or something else entirely but I just know that the fact that they have been appearing in our world isn't good. And at first I also thought they were from another dimminension but yet there is still something else that I have found out that makes me think other wise. Well any ways if you see them well just be careful I don't know for sure what or why they are appearing here yet.

Hello All! I have also seen small shadow things. About the size of a cat. Only twice though and they are very fast. I don't think anything is bad about them. Just enjoy them because for some reason they picked your house to be at. We have had only one large shadow but it was caught on digital camera. I was at work and my husband didn't even know he had the shadow in the pic. Look over to my picture on the left... thats the shadow person with my dogs on our couch. Crazy! Patti

I, at one time, lived in a house where you always felt like you were being watched by something in the hallway. It wasn't just me either... my kids told me about it at separate times w/o me saying anything about it. Now 10 yrs later in my new house we have the same feelings. The last time was next to my bed. The occurrences are happening more often now. My husbands scalp was being scratched. He saw a shadow behind me in the doorway. Hi I too in my house have seen this shadow thing, but I have other things going on - I just wanted to comment on this because I have been seeing a shadow dog size in mine. It started one day I heard a running sound coming across my house. I looked up expecting my moms dog to come around the corner because they are usuallyhere. Only thing my mom and her dog had gone back home from the visit. So my surprise when no dog came and them remebered why. A week later my moms dog died. Now I don't know if this new "dog" sized shadow that keeps darting through my chairs in the living room to disappear into the 4 ft speakers is the ghost of my moms dog or not but I never seen this shadow dog sized thing before. Just my own personal story, as for the others I have seen shadow "people" my whole life.the women in my family both sides seem to have different "gifts" or "curses" depending how you look at it. So that could be why. Although the shadows are dark and it tends to be the case we look at dark as evil they're not all that way. I would start with a cleansing in the house - or blessing. I'm curious to see what happens with pattis investigators findings !

Lobrobster. Every time I see or hear anything in my house I try to figure out how that would happen. The last shadow that was seen in my diningroom was seen by my husband. So we set it up. The same time the same lighting. Just in case that lighting was a mistake we tried other lighting. Nothing. Sorry sweetie. There is no mistaking a shadow of a person in our diningroom. Did you look at the shadow picture next to my name? That was a digital camera. You cannot put a shadow into the picture. If you can... I sure wouldn't know how to do that myself. Also, when he took that pic he didn't see a shadow. He was taking a pic of our pets. He didn't even know the shadow was there till I told him when I got home from work. In my case, with the shadow in the DR, I was standing at our table. My hubby was in the next room, (open floor plan) sitting on the couch looking straight at me. We were fully awake. Okay this has been a hot debate between my friends and myself. Any way what they appear to be are beings from another dimension who seem to be attracted to people who put out a lot of psychic energy. They can be annoying at times actually like one has actually ran behind me and started laughing they also come in manny different forms like there is one that looks like a little girl that follows me aroind I actually don't think they are dead. But they can interact with the nonliving however. One of my friends who also has psychic gifts says they don't live off psychic energy they live off a persons life force but I beleve she is wrong because the first time I saw one was when I was 7 years old and I went up to it and actually tried to play with it they seem surprised that we can see them at all actually which I find surprising I use to think they were demons and sometimes I still do because when there are a lot of them around it usually means something bad is going to happen when there is one or two they are just feeding off people like a leeach actually. They can interact with objects actually they almost mimic pulterguiest (sorry if I spelled that wrong) they can move things and make them reappear in other places. But because I am a claravoyant telepathic they tend to work with me I guess and the one that's here like I said looks like a child. I honistly can't say what they want but it seems they just want the same thing as we do to surrvive to continue on or maybe (this is going to sound crazy) these entites have found a way to cheat death and they stand with a foot on both side of the great divide. I had shadow people last year, but that was our fault, we had mirrors facing each other, and that will cause this. Bad things were happening, but once I took down once set , it slowed down. Now we see black orbs, shadows along the floor, and who knows why, there is no answer to why there are there, as long as they are not hurting you than I wouldn't worry.

This is the first I've about the term shadow people but I had a similar experience many years ago. I was in bed and all lights out, total darkness. I had a feeling something was walking toward me. It was a shape but the only way I can explain it is the color was blacker than black against a dark room. It was not possible that anything was casting that shadow. I felt it's presence coming through the door and slowly towards me. I was able to get up and run along side of it and out the room. I never went back into that room again and have never been able to explain what happened.

It's not a shadow! It's an evil spirit that's dwelling there. There is no such thing as ghosts- just evil spirits and angels (and god and Jesus). The dead cannot come back to life, but evil spirits that may have lived inside them may come back in their image.

Okay, something opened the door for that spirit. So you must first ask Jesus into your life. Once you do that, then you belong to God. It is then that you have the power to command those spirits to leave you alone. Also, you need to visit a christian church that teaches about demon deliverance. Hi I hope someone could help me out with this my mum has been seeing lots of shadows and other things around her house it only goes on for about a month out the year but the other day she was stood in the kitchen talking to my gran on the phone and when she moved there was a horrible shadow behind her when she stood up it moved away really slow it's a black shadow and it weren't human she said it had long fingers if anyone could help explain this I would be greatfull

I believe in spirits, so that is what it might be! We live in an old house and all of us have seen figures, usually white. Once we bought an antique chair and evidently a sirit had attached itself to the chair. We started seeing a black figure which frightened us, so we sold the chair and haven't seen the figure since.

Remember from the body you have the soul and the spirit.
The soul goes back to the devine, but the spirit is what around.
Spirits are the communication for what we call the after life, not the soul.
If someone has a moment of death, the furthest I've heard it went is 'a bright light' or "i heard someone say..." no one has been past the bright light, if so then your dead, that is where the soul goes,
So what you are seeing in the spirit. As said, there are good one's and bad one's.
How can you tell, as you pray to and call the devine in your faith, remember that all sects have a day for the forfathers, thus remember your forefathers simultaneously and when that event happens again, as you pray to the devine, also pray to your forefathers (in the sense of asking for help)... you will be surprise of what happens... be strong at heart...

I see shadows like that but they shoot across the room. I don't notice anything else because it was just a glance. A lot of people see this. I don't want to sound weird or anything but they're spirits. It has nothing to do with your eyes either. Don't be scared its really nothing I've seen stuff like that since I was 14 years old.
