Do you think there should be all year round school?
If you do, why?
If you don't, Why not?

It is not a bad idea. The town I used to live in had it. The children did not have this super long summer break and then have to take forever to get back into the school mode again. And parents didn't have to worry about finding things for their kids to do over the summer.
They went for a certain period, would have a week break and then go back to school. I think a couple of times they would have a 2 week break.

Yes, there should be school all year 'round.
Studies have proven that the students retain material better if there is no summer break . The students then don't have to relearn in September. The students are kept busy all year without mobs of them loose on the streets for three months. Year-round school would make it easier for parents to plan family vacations and not have the worry of unattended youngsters if both parents work.
The summer break was set up back in the day when children were farmers' kids and helped on the farms. That's not the case any longer.
The teachers would benefit because they would be employed year-round and not have those three summer months sitting there with no income.
Of course, schools would need to be air conditioned if there is school during the summer months.

On occasion I have dreamed of a year round school... BUT on a more serious note, yes, I think it is a wonderful idea. I think the kids would feel more secure emotionally as well. They would just keep going and have small breaks here and there. No transition except for the major school changes, like middle school and high school. I am all for it!

You silly... they would have vacations and lot's of breaks. It would be almost the same amout of time in school as they are now... but more "small" breaks. Of course they wouldn't miss out on any fun and life isn't going to just go on without them... I still think it is a great idea. Less stress on the kids at least the way I am looking at it! :)

How can it be less stress when you are at school all year?

You're at school all year but you have breaks throughout the year. You don't have the stress of "the first day of school" That is very stressful for a lot of kids.

Less stress, and keep in mind... that school to you is different than me. You are still 18 and I am far out of that stage. I think that the transition from a 3 month break for summer is just awful, the anticipation, the nervousness, the school supplies, the clothes, the over load of info... sheesh. If we did a year long school, it all would be so subtle that it would hardly be noticed and for me... that is less stressful. Let alone, a constant learning system and it keeps the mind in gear and in motion to learn. 2 or 3 months is a long time to stop and start up again.

Nice thread going here.
I like the idea of shorter breaks in between. I am sure it gives kids time to refresh, teachers get a break then back to school again.
As wondergirl said, less time for kids to get into trouble.
Maybe Summer(:)not really applicable to me,because here it is hot and humid year around with rain in between) could have fewer classes and more outdoor type learning.

What does it matter since no child will be left behind? Whether they have learned anything or not.
