My mom was cutting some mats off my dog's fur. He had one on his leg. My mom acidently cut his leg a little bit.

What should it do? Its not deep but it looks gross to me. He's been licking it for 5 minutes now. Should I contiune letting him?

Well when my dog cut her paw on a rock in a river, I cleaned it out and put a pad on it. That way she couldn't lick it and she was fine.

I personally would try Sgt's advice first esp if it is not deep, Hopefully a scab will form over the cut. But,Here are a few of things you could try.The cut should be cleaned out, you don't want bacteria or dirt to be trapped in the cut.
If he is licking it too much get a Elizabethan collar (white cone shape) sold at pet stores, vet clinics and Walmart may even carry it. This will prevent him from licking it.
There is a spray called bitter apple (sold at pet stores and Walmart)you could put some around the cut (not in it).
You could also try to put some antibiotic oniment on it this can be purschased in the stores as well. Maybe Monday, depending on how it looks, you should call your vet.

If it is not a deep wound, you may apply peroxide to the wound. Then using a q-tip, put a small amount of neosporin on the q-tip and apply to the wound. However, if you had some blue lotion, that would take care of it. Blue lotion is a topical antiseptic used on livestock that fights infection and seems to hasten the healing process.

By now he has likely licked off anything anything you tried to apply. Unless it is so bad the vet needs to stitch it, I would just keep an eye on it.

Thanks you guys! We put peroxide on it but I don't think it helped.

Welp, I was just at my vet for this. (Took Trinkett out to Speed Alley at the local SPCA fund-raiser, and she wound up ripping both her front stop pads. But I now know why they wanted to breed her! She's a very game dog.) The basic advice the vet gave me was to soak the pads in clorhexidine solution starting tomorrow, because those pads are close to a joint and she doesn't want them getting infected. Other than that, since they aren't bleeding, just leave them alone and they should heal up on their own. Don't bandage it unless the dog is obsessively licking it.

Of course, all of this depends on how bad the cuts are, where they are located, etc.

Well, Its not his pad Its his leg. The only way I could descibe it is that someone cut a piece of the top of your fingure( just a tiny piece). He's been licking it a lot, but its not bleeding anymore. Whenever I see him doing it I stop him because I'm parnoid and think he is making it worse. >_< Im sure he will be fine though. But he's my baby. :(

What would you bandage it with by the way?

Depending on the size of your dog, the cut, and some other factors, I'd either go with something like a gauze pad and standard ace bandage to hold it in place, or you could cut the end off a sock, slip that over the leg, and then use tape to tighten the ends so that it stays in place. No matter what you use, make sure that you do not wrap it so tight that the blood flow is constricted. However, cuts do tend to heal up better if they are not covered, so I would see if you can find some nice distracting toys to divert him to if he starts licking, and leave the cut uncovered if you can.

Just leave him be. You are getting a lot of this and that from those knowing little more than you.
