Hello ray:
If you pay rent, you're a tenant, and he has to give you 30 days written notice to vacate.
I don't know if this helps you, because your dad ain't going to like it, and he might put you out anyway. If he does, the only thing you can do is sue him for wrongful eviction - but the cops ain't going to help.

You pay rent to your Dad but your name is not on his rental agreement? Right? Does the landlord know you are living there?

He did call the police and they told him since I was there for 6 months they can't ask me to leave

Yeah as long as you have mail with your name and that address he has to give you 30 day notice as far as the police are concerned.
As shygrneyzs said IF the landlord gets involved that is another whole story.
Also save any proof of checks, receipts or anything that proves what you paid for your share of rent, utilities and food.
Save some money in the meantime!

Then, since the landlord does not know you are living there, you are an illegal tenant so both you and your Father could be removed in less than thirty days. Should the landlord find out and decide to take action.
