View Full Version : Am I crazy or is this a phase?

This started about a year ago, and I can't say it's unpleasant, but I get these really out-there feelings and emotions when I see or hear something. It like, reminds me of something that happened way back. I watched this video on YouTube and it made me feel like the person was dead (although they were waving their arms and going, all right! All right! Sort of a silly random pointless video) or that it was like.. in a different world or something, it seemed like the video was a dream.. I realize I mentioned three things and that's because it made me feel like all of them.
And this sort of weird stuff happens when I look at something, I can't remember specific examples. But perhaps like when I am just looking out the window, or lost in thought about a random object or event, I'll get this very subtle but noticeable feeling that makes me remember something I can't consciously bring up. I realize most would classify that as deja-vu, and perhaps it is - but I experience deja-vu and it's different. Deja-vu is when I know something happened before, like in a dream.
This thing, is more like I'm remembering something I don't know, or is lost somehow.. and it happens VERY often. Sometimes I get profound moments which also happen very often and are mostly associated with music, but sometimes not. I get this strong feeling like "this is it".. I know NONE of this makes any sense, but I can tell you I know these thoughts are not normal, but also that they're not exactly unpleasant.. they're a part of my life.
Am I most certainly (or subtly possibly) crazy, or is this a phase? Personally, I don't think it's a phase as it has been going on for a year, ever since around the time I turned 13. I'm physically and emotionally mature for my age, maybe fast forward 2-3 years. (I know this because it's what everyone tells me.) It is progressing and getting more common.

I don't think you're crazy at all. (:
I don't have an answer as to what it is, and I don't think it's a phase, but I'm EXACTLY the same way.

I'm happy to know I'm not the only one who has strange feelings like this.

Have you talked to your parents about this? Have you ever experienced anything traumatic that you may have blocked and you are now emotionally ready to remember?
What are other things in your life like, such as school, friends, family life, etc? Are you managing well in all aspects of your life? Are you an over-achiever or a perfectionist?
There could be many reasons for this type of thing, but I really do think that your parents are a good place to start. Perhaps they can shed some light on the situation or the memories.
For the record, I don't think you are crazy. Of course, it is always possible that you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health issue, and it may need to be addressed and ruled out at some point, but I don't really get a sense that this is the case.

I'll ask them, although it doesn't seem like anything traumatic would have happened.

Thanks, templeane. I think I'll take that off there; I didn't even think. (:

Good, I'd be interested in hearing what they say.
I wanted to tell you a little story... :) For as long as I could remember, when I was overtired and trying to sleep I would wake up suddenly just before I hit into that deep sleep phase and feel very startled, like someone was under my bed and shaking it or something. I know, I know... lots of kids have that kind of fear thing happen. However, I still had it at age 34. I always kept it to myself, because I thought people would think I was crazy, but it started to really bother me. So, one night I was at my parents and confided in them. Both of them burst out laughing! Apparently, I was a real holy terror as a child and just would not settle down when they put me to bed (and, if you ever read any of my posts, you will see most of them are done between midnight and 4 am as I remain a night owl). So, they tried a number of things, none of which worked. Eventually, my dad tried sneaking into the room and hiding under my crib. My mom would put me to bed, and every time I started playing, my dad woud shake the mattress a bit from underneath! Of course, I would get real quiet and lay back down... eventually going to sleep after a few times. So, something so simple had been carried with me for so many years! By the way, once I found out, I have never had the feelings again!
Anyhow, it may not be something like that, but either way, your parents should be made aware of what you are experiencing. Sometimes it is as simple as just being deeply into a daydream, other times you could be picking up on things with a sixth sense, it could be a repressed memory, it could be an inner ear infection, or, as I said before, it could be an early symptom of a psychological condition. If your parents know about it they can keep an eye on things and if there seems to be no logical reason for it, you should see a doctor to rule out the medical reasons.

I don't know... it just feels weird.
Like when I have weird feelings. And sense that something is there.

Well I finally asked my parents.. and they said no, not what they can think of. I didn't think it was a traumatic experience anyway, because what I'm constantly reminded of varies, it doesn't seem like a specific event.

Well, then, if everything else in your life is all right, I suspect that you have a gift. Embrace it.
