I recently moved into a basement apartment of a private residence. The kithen sink had been put in without a vent. It is just direct piped out the house. My question is can I install a vent under the sink without having to tie into the existing vent for the other plumbing as this would be impossible. I have seen reference to something called a cheater vent ---- any ideas as to what this is and how to make one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Roy

Yes you may cut a tee in after the trap and install a AAV,(Air Admittance Valve) off the branch of the tee and be vented. Click on http://www.studor.com/homeowners.htm to check them out.
Good luck, Tom
