I am looking to replace a thermostat for a heat pump and electric furnace and I need to know is it a 1 stage cool and 2stage heat or 2 and 2 ? The new units are goodman's , the old thermostat is from the Trane system they took out and the thermostat has 3 switch's first off/ heat / cool second is for the fan auto / on , the third is an emerg. Heat and norm. there is also a blue light that came on when the heat pump kicked off and the furnace kicked in? I am guessing it's a 1 stage cool and 2 stage heat but want to be sure? Also is there a thermostat that anyone would recommend? Thanks Kevin

I recently replaced my thermostat for my Goodman heat pump with a White Rogers programmable type. (model # IF72-151) I have had no problem with it, and wiring is straightforward. My heat pump is two stage heat, one stage cool. The second stage heat is also the emergency heat, which is common on many heat pumps. Check your wiring configuration before replacing a thermostat, to be sure you get one that will do the job for you.
Good Luck

Did you get a manual with the new system? If not, I would ask the contractor for one. You could also look for the model number on the manufacturer's website. Another great resource is the sticky at the top of the forum here. What worked for somebody else's system may or may not be right for yours.
Our top man here, Northern Heat, doesn't like NOMA thermostats.
