Hi,
My boyfriend is paying child support to three different women all in different states. (yes he has had a vasectomy) :p They take half of what is left of his paycheck after taxes and health insurance. He gets $360 from an $1100 check. He got a 2nd job to try to stay afloat, and they took half of that too. He works 70 hours a week for less than $1000 a month. This is terrible, and he is starting school again and he is supposed to get $1100 from his GI Bill. Will they take half of that too? I really hope not. We were going to get married and that is not happening now. I fear my money will be affected also. Ironically, I have children and I don't and never have gotten a dime from my dead beat dads. AZ dept of economic security only seems to fight for your child support if you are on welfare. I am not. I work and struggle, but I could use some help. So I really hope this GI Bill money is safe. I am all for supporting your kids, but this doesn't leave him anything to survive on. The only way to get it modified is to go to all three states courts and file for modification. With what money?? Not to mention a lawyer. I fear I am signing up for a life full of debt and poverty. Any advice or help on this would be greatly appreciated!!

Have the money paid directly to the school and it should be reasonably safe since its not income, but a reimbursement for tuition.

His child support woes shouldn't affect your income, but I would keep your money in a separate account.

Yes most state care most about getting child support when the parent files for public assistance to recoup or limit what they have to pay out.

Well,You see, he is getting student loans. So that covers his schooling completely. He intended the GI Bill to supplement his income, or lack there of. So he is expecting to use that money for bills.

I would work it the opposite. I would use the student loan money to pay bills and then have the GI funds go directly to the school.

P.S. You did it correctly in replying and yes we do get informed when replies are posted.
