Hi, I have a Kenmore Elite Catalyst washing machine that starting making a wrong noise while mid cycle. It is full of water and I can't get it to drain or agitate. It's the push button type so you can't set it at mid cycle. I have bailed lots of water out and of course removed the clothes but am not sure what to do from here. Also can't find the model number. NOt my day.

Is the motor turning? If so check the cou[ling between the motor and transmission. It is probably bad and need replacing. Coest is under $20 and about an hours time. Not difficuilt either.

Ok, my Hubby got home and we ran it through a short cycle. It filled but didn't agitate but did drain. So that would be that coupling?

If it is draining (pumping water out) and spinning but not agitating it would be the "dogs" or also referred to as cams. Eaiser to fix. Pull the fabric dispenser off and then you will see a cover with a bow tie type top. Twist and remove it to get to the 7/16" bolt and remove it. Now pull the agitator off and set on floor. Put both feet on the base and pull up to separate the 2 pieces. Replace the 4 dogs or the entire assembly (less than $15.00)and reassemble.
