View Full Version : Issue with kitten having accidents.

I have a kitten that is four months old and we are having a bit of an issue. She waits until I'm asleep and urinates on me. I don't know why she is doing this. The obvious answer would be to put her in the pet porter at night and let her out in the morning, but besides the fact that she whines piteously this also happens if I take a nap in the day time. She is definitely affectionate and loves to play with me or sit in my lap while I do something else and since this issue has started she hasn't exhibited any unusual behavior (besides the issue itself). I make sure the litter box is clean and in a low traffic area and I have even gotten a another one that is lower to the ground so that I can be sure that she can reach it.
Despite all these things she still urinates on me. I can't very well keep her locked up all the time so I was hoping some one could help me. It seems like such a ridiculous issue until you wake up in a puddle kitten urine.
Please help.

She could be trying to alert you to a problem she is having. Does she seem to be drinking any more or less than usual? Is she peeing more or less than usual? You say her box is in a low traffic area... can she get to it in a hurry if she is in your bedroom? Also, and I know this sounds weird, but is your bedding clean? My teen daughter went through a period where she was too lazy to put her bedding in the wash. The cat would pee on it if she didn't! LOL!
I would definitely crate her anyway. Yes, they will carry on, but just like anything, they gradually get used to it. It becomes a safe haven... their own space. The only other thing that I can think of is that you and her are too close and she feels she owns you. Again, crating will help that.
I think I would take her to the vet for a thorough check up, blood and urine tests and use the crate religiously. There are some cats that are just plain dirty, and I hope she isn't one of them.
Also, is it possible that she is coming into heat and... ummm... pardon me for asking... making out with you in your sleep?? :) If so, it's time for a spaying appointment!
Hope this helps.
Hugs, Didi

Thank you for replying.
I'm meticulous about my sheets so I don't think it's that. But I am going to schedule an appointment with the vet in the morning to have her checked out and I'm going to start implementing my Pet Porter. I think it may be that Puffi (my kitten) thinks she owns me. Lol
I'll try these and let you know how it comes out.
Thanks again! =)

I just wanted to update you on my kitten, puffi-face. The pet porter training worked out well, although it was rocky at first. Eventually I guess her desire to lay on the foot of my bed tempered her bad behavior and she no longer has the issue. She has been allowed to sleep in my bed with me for 2 weeks and we haven't had one accident.
I took her to the vet and she was vaccinated. The vet agreed with your advice.
So thank you again! =)

Thank you for the update! I am so happy that things are working out. I hope you and puffi-face have a very long and happy life together! :) I am glad to hear that my advice helped and that your vet agreed with my advice. Feedback is always appreciated.
