I got a wall mount TV for which I wanted to create an electrical outlet and a cable outlet behind the TV so the wires are concealed. The OLD outlets are about 4 feet below the TV.

I took out the existing electrical outlet box and undid the wires coming into it (2 BLK, 2 WHT, 1 ground) and then created a new outlet hole where I wanted it located. I noticed that the electrical wire was running by where I cut the hole so I cut it and connected it to the box at the new location.

The new location works fine for both cable and electricity BUT the light switch in the room no longer works for the lights and the outlets on one side of the room are no longer functional. How do I fix this??

Please help.

You interupted power downline. You just need to connect short piece of romex between
New TV power, and lower receptacle.
If both cables pass TV you can connect both there. I would leave the lower one.
If both pass TV, you can use single romex to lower receptacle.

Poor planning. With electricity, please try not to do that again, please.

The outlet you disconnected was aid-stream outlet. Meaning it had a Line In and Line out.

The wire in the wall could be from anywhere but is most probably a Switch Loop. Is there a switch on the wall that you are toying with?

Donf, hope all is well, since he lost recepticles and light switch, I believe he cut the feed to switch and remaining recepticles?

I agree with you, however, I think we need to start wringing wires out to find the feed line.

The feed line must be the one he cut and attached to the new outlet. The other wire must feed either the switch or the light. He could to attach both ends of the cut wire to the new outlet, or find the other wire and attach it. All connections must be in a box and accessible.

I think it feeds the switch AND more recepticles. Either way, if he just runs small piece between lower receptacle and new receptacle, it will solve problem. It is still good to have the old lower one functionable for convience.

Guys it sounds like he has to many source lines floating around the room.

Can be exact about what you disconnected when you R&Red the outlet? I noticed that you pulled two pair, "Feed In" was proably the top pair and "Feed Out" being the lower pair.

Do you know where the "Feed In" line was coming from? Looking both left and right of the outlet, are there adjacent outlets and do they all work? Also, on the vertical that you cut, did you pigtail the sections together?
