I'm pretty sure chalk is non-toxic. Does he eat it to make a point about rocks or something? I remember my 7th grade science teacher used to lick one of the rocks because it was made up of salt. It was really weird.

Hahaha how odd. Yea here's a salt bulding in some place and people lick it!

Hm I'm not sure, I never had her for a teacher but that is some freaky stuff there

Yeah that's pretty strange. I guess everyone has to have something weird about them right? So her thing is eating chalk.

If it is an obsession it is called PICA

Pica is an appetite for non-nutritive substances (e.g. coal, soil, chalk, paper etc.) or an abnormal appetite for some things that may be considered foods, such as food ingredients (e.g. flour, raw potato, starch). In order for these actions to be considered pica, they must persist for more than one month, at an age where eating such objects is considered developmentally inappropriate. The condition's name comes from the Latin word for the magpie, a bird which is reputed to eat almost anything. Pica is seen in all ages, particularly in pregnant women and small children, especially among children who are developmentally disabled, where it is the most common eating disorder.

And I thought my teachers were weird... what, does the teacher actually sit there with a bit of chalk and eat it in front of the class?

Yes I had a special person in my life, who would do something similar, sort of strange but we all have issues I guess.

Thanks for letting me know that a teacher at your school eats chalk. You just made my night:)

I can't imagine how anyone could ever enjoy doing this, but it sure can't be too healthy!
