The quality of yhe vinyl should be judged mostly by the thickness of the wear layer , this is the outermost layer on the face of the vinyl. As far as vinyl planks I haven't really used them so I can't recommend them or not for that matter. In my experience none of the self adhesive vinyls that have come out work very well. If you want the plank look then they have sheet vinyls that mimmick this or you could use something like laminate or hardwood.

AC101 is corect on the quality issue. Vinyl planks glued down have a great appearance. I have also laid some that have an adhesive edge that overlapse the next tile make a flush seam and they were great. It creates a floating floor that has adhered to itself and not the sub floor.

Don't get flat. I hate mine ,with the light just right you can see every little scratch of flaw. Use something that is wavy, It will be more expensive though, anything but flat. If you like light colors go one shade darker. Ask me anything else about this.

Here is what I have found in these type floors, the more you pay the better they lay.
We've installed some floors that were $1 to $1.25, these floors took hours longer to install. Edges chiped easier, joints didn't lock together as easy, installing them under door jambs were much more difficult, as for the $2 and up floors they went down much more quick and the finishes looked much better than the cheaper stuff, they are also much more durable than the cheap stuff, also some of the big flooring companys will have some floors for $.79 cent, if you take a look at these floors there almost half the thickness of the cheap stuff, in my opinion its all junk till you get something around the $2 and up range
