My husband and I were evicted from our rental home four days after I asked for repairs to be made. We were given a letter from our Landlord's lawyer stating that we had to move within 30 days which we did. After we moved, we found out that the landlord told neighbors that he evicted us because we weren't paying rent which is absolutely not true. What can I do? This eviction was retaliatory on his part.

Assuming you were a month-to-month tenant, there's nothing you can do. He gave you the proper notice. There does not need to be any reason given.

I don't know any info about issues of libel/slander/etc, but if he's going around saying untrue things about you that's the type of laws you need to check into.

I should add, you weren't "evicted". Your lease was terminated... from the details you've provided.

First you were not evicted. You were told to vacate and did. Eviction is a legal process that requires a court order and therefore a hearing.

The landlord had no right to tell you to vacate unless your lease was expiring or you violated some terms of the lease. So whether you have a cause of action against the landlord for terminating the lease is questionable.

If you can prove that the landlord has been making false, derogatory statements against you, then you have a cause of action against him for those. However, to bring such action you would have to show damages.
