I am finishing a (walk out) basement bathroom with a slab foundation. The bathroom drains were installed when the house was built, and I have been doing really well until the shower was next in line. The shower drain is a 2" pvc drain protruding up through a cynderblock that was layed in the slab foundation. The drain is roughed in at about 8" from the studded wall where the valve and shower head will be located, and 20.5" from the back studded wall. My question is whether the P trap is likely buried in the slab, or if I need to break out the cynderblock (and potentially more of the slab) and install this myself. Is there an easy way to determine if the trap is already there? (perhaps cut the drain open, pour water in and wait for it to smell, or try and look in to see if there is water still at the bottom - would this indicate a trap?) I have dug the dirt out of the cynderblock as deep as I easliy can and still cannot determine if the trap is there.
Next - are there manufacturers of shower pans that do not have pre drilled drain holes or am I going to be most likely tiling the shower pan because of where my drain ended up? Thank you much... :confused:

The traps there. In my area all our homes are on slabs. While we leave a 14 X14" dap out hole around a tub trap we usually place the shower trap where the tile man can get to it and pour around the stub up leaving the trap under the slab. Regards, Tom
