I have recently moved out from an apartment in Washington state.
I had $100 refundable security deposit and $150 refundable pet deposit.
I got a notice from my landlord saying that
"Damage charges extra clean/paint/carpet" cost me 250$.

I lived on the premised for 2 years. I know the carpet was damaged, but other then that there was no damages other then normal wear and tear.

My question is, Can my pet deposit be charged for damages not caused by my pet?

Thank you.

Did you damage the carpet? If so I assume they can keep both deposits, if they can prove the cost was $250.00 and they have a total of $250.00 in deposits from you then move on.

Let me clarify my question. If the deposit explicetly states it is for a pet, can the landlord legaly use it to pay for anything other then the pet damage?

Thank you.

Possibly not. But they can bill you for the extra damage over the security deposit. Do you really want them to send you a check for $15o along with a bill for $150, and have to write them another check for that amount? Or, if you refuse to do that, go to court over it?
