Hi there, single mom here and have no clue where to start, glad I found this site.

I have a Honeywell programmable thermostat and it's acting very funny. The A/C not only won't shut off in the 'auto' position, but the thermostat stays stuck at 77 degrees although it feels more like 57 degrees right now, apparently it has been running all day while I was at work!

I have tried shutting off the furnace, shutting off the thermostat, etc. Not only does it turn right back on, but none of the buttons work so I can't clear it, 'run program', or adjust anything!

Oddly enough, the time is correct on it.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Have you tried flipping off the circuit breakers for the furnace (air handler) and the compressor? Your thermostat may be getting its power off it. If you take the batteries (if any) out of the thermostat, shut off all the climate control related circuit breakers at your breaker panel, wait 5-10 minutes, and then turn it all back on, it may reset itself and work.

If you have turned to power off to the thermostat and when it came back on still did the same thing try this.

Remove bateries and kill all power. Then after a few minutes replace thermostat batterys and power system back up.

If that does not work try to trace the wiring back to the furnace to see if any of the thermostat wires have been shorted.

If the furnace has a relay for the A/C it could be defective allowing the A/C
To run all the time.

Next step is to replace the defective thermostat.

Before replacing the thermostat, check the procedure for testing them in the sticky at the top of the forum.
