This may sound really silly, but my b/f is addicted to nurofen plus, he takes at least 12 a day sometimes up to 24 a day. It has a substance in it called codine witch is the addictive part. I have read up on it and I have seen what can happen with the long term use, he already had a stomach ulsa and is showing all the symptoms. He won't admit it's a problem and won't go to see a doctor, what should I do to help him, he has been addicted to other strong drugs in the past an have come clean from them all.. I feel this is just a replacement for coming off the other drugs

It's OK to confront your boyfriend with the reality of what he is doing, most addicts don't like this though and can react negatively or deny there is a problem. If he has come off other hard drugs in the past he probably sees nurofen as totally harmless and is in denial about it. Confronting him will however draw it to his attention and make him aware there is a potential problem (or that this could lead back to the old way of life!) which is good. If he is on a recovery programme he may start talking about it and get help in that way. If he is not on a programme then he will have to come to the point where using nurofen in this way causes him the same pain that made him get off the other drugs and ask for help about this himself. The best way you can help him is just be there for him and support him which you seem to be doing. I was the girlfriend of a drug addict and unfortunately we cannot get them clean (as much as we'd like to) they have to do it themselves.

By the way.. it does not sound silly.. the fear of someone you love going back onto hard drugs or getting ill through misuse of any drug is real and I totally understand where you are coming from.
