Hi all, after sorting all sort of problems of virus/trojans now I got another problem. My cd rom is not listed in my computer which means that I am not able to use it. It opens and closes but do not works. I am using dell system with 512 ram and xp home and pro both installed on same partition. Can this cause any conflicts. It is not shown in device manager. My device manager shows yellow mark against usb controller. Please help.
Thanks

Go to Control Panel and double click the Add Hardware item, then click the Next button. It will search your computer for hardware that it doesn't currently show.

Let us know if that works.

Hi rick, thanks, I did try installing it through controlpanel like you said but it does not detect my cdrom and I don't have its configuration to do it manually. Any other idea please

You're now looking at a variety of reasons it my not be recognized.

Here's a good list of issues and remedies. (http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/comp/cd/recogDriver-c.html)

I may have found your solution. I just had the same problem with my sister-in-laws computer and this fixed it right up. Here is the link:http://www.theeldergeek.com/restore_missing_cd_or_dvd_drive.htm

thanks, had a look under

[Start] [Run] [Regedit]
Registry Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class
Key Name: {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Value Data: [Delete All Value Data from UpperFilters and LowerFilters]
Note: Do not delete the Key or the Multi-String Values. Delete only the data values.
Exit Registry and Reboot

I don't have any entries upper filters or lower filters. Any idea how can I create them. I have tried few registry cleaners but of no use.

Sorry, I'm not sure what to do if you don't have those registry keys. You might want to carefully check again. I think it may depend on what computer you have. If you still can't find them, try doing a system restore to a date before the drives disappeared. If that still doesn't work, you may have to do a full system reinstall.
