Umm, What does it matter? One of the advantages of cyberspace is its anonymity. Frankly I think it rude to ask people to reveal any personal info about themselves.

And if you want people to do this, don't you think you should have offered yours first?

Michigan is a big area :)
Seriously though, there are about 5 Chris Kosters, and 1 or 2 Christopher Kosters, that I've seen listed in any given directory. Also, about 5 C Kosters. None of the addresses are mine, either.

You also list your date of birth. It wouldn't take me long to figure out. I'm just saying this for your privacy. Then again I'm that guy that doesn't give out his phone number at stores when I pay cash. :D

I'm with you; I've already been threatened twice on this site. One person tried to pretend they knew where I lived, said I mentioned it already. Sorry not that stupid. That's why I never specifically say where I am or my age. So would I give out my name? Not unless I suffer some severe mental debilitation.

I worry about how much info some of the younger members give out sometimes...

True, true...

Oh well, it's not that hard to look up a domain registration, anyway. I've got two for them floating around (Though one expires in November, and I don't know if I'm going to renew it).

Good advice from Scott, and Need.Never never give out exactly where you live.A lot of us regulars have been on AMHD for a few years, and have seen examples of being "too open".

I live in the UK.That's all folks... :D

Haha, that would be so weird. There's already another guy nammed chris, and when we were in high school, our parents (which we lived with, so, I guess us too) had the same phone number all but for ONE digit. Of course, one number was right under the other, so we would occasionally receive each other's phone calls.

Yeah my brothers phone, my sisters, and I have all the same numbers but 2 numbers. For example my last 2 digits are 08, my brothers is 17, my sisters 81. The rest are the same

My real name is Ashley. But I'm not really worried about someone searching through the 45 billion other females in the US with that name. I use a different username at every forum/online community I belong to also. I always hope people have good intentions, but I am sometimes proven wrong, so we have to stay safe. :)

sGt HarDKorE
Sep 19, 2007, 05:18 PM
All my info use to be on this site but I removed some things least I think so like my city and last name but it wouldn't be too hard to fine. I only use 2 usernames on the internet and I'm sure if you went to every site and read my profile, you would be able to find out my exact location. And I do not feel scared for my safety or anything. I never get any threatening messages, the only spam I have gotten off this site was a girl asking for my email so she could send porn pictures. Aside from that I get no spam

Thanks Tal,

Lalla,
I do think you should not give out any personal information on these public forums, it is for your safety.

As you are only 11, I do think you will have a lot more to explore than being on the net making new friends with people whom you cannot verify to be good or bad people.

It OK to exchange information and learn new things, but try not to give out personal information or ask too personal questions unless someone offers that information on their own.

Take care and be careful while on the net.

And here I was thinking that capuchin was a species of monkey

I don't see any risk in giving out my first name, and its not like he was asking for my last name
Because anyway, we give out our names to anyone we talk to in person, so what's the danger in giving a first name to someone who only knows that you live in western australia?
My name is sean, and I don't care even if sum1 does track me down.
Edit- though I should prob use a diff username each site I'm on, but I don't have the time to memorise that many names.

Not to offend anyone, but my real name is known to maybe less than a dozen on the site. Not I think I will be subject to a stalker but I don't like any open doors when I am not the one opening them.

It does happen, I have always been very open, and decided to keep my user name the same over the last 10 years on various question and answer sites. It has even somewhat given me some level ( small) of fame by people who reconise my name or even face as I travel around the county.

But it can have its issues, most know my somewhat slightly right wing view points on many subjects, well I have had hate mail sent to my home and church, even people who have left items in my mail box in front of my home.. And of course I win millions of dollars every day, and have dozens of girls of week wanting me. ** get a lot of junk mail by having a link to a email address ( that is used mostly for junk)

Lalla,

Excellent advice above!

My name is Clough. It is part of my real name. It rhymes with "rough" and "tough." Most of those persons that are familiar with me on this site already know the other part of my name. But, most of the time it has been because I have chosen to reveal it in a private message because they have let me know their real name or from information that I provided when I first joined the site. Information in private messages will not come up in searches on the Internet.

I am comfortable with using it for a username because I use the Internet for advertising. I am also comfortable with sharing that it is part of my real name with you, Lalla. But, that is only because I put other information on the web that is for business purposes. There are also others who participate on this website that have willingly put information out there on the web in the form of websites for their businesses.

This isn't an advertising site, so I don't provide any more information. In addition to that, unless you want the whole world (and potentially bad people, not just people you trust) to know a lot about you and maybe even approach you in whatever way, it's best not to be splashing personal information about yourself on things such as blogs, chat rooms, ads or even this website.

This website may seem like a safe place for a number of age groups to talk about things, and overall it is. It is extremely well moderated (people watching what people are posting to make sure that it is all good.) But, it does get very excellent coverage in search results on the Internet. That is part of the reason that it is so successful. People looking for information find it, because this is one of the sites where the information for which they are searching has been talked about.

I would like to think that the bottom line is: Be very careful about what information you put about yourself on the Internet and even the information that you ask for.

Absolutely! One should also check the amout of info you reveal in IM programs (yahoo, icq etc) and blog sites (myspace, Facebook, etc) because people can string pieces of information about you together and get a complete picture of who you are, who your friends are (and any information they also reveal on their profiles), what school you go to, etc etc. With a little detective work I am sure a wannabe stalker could track you down in no time at all. Its scary really, and we are all guilty of thinking "it will never happen to me".
