I am 33, I plan to start riding my bike when we move in about two weeks. I have had four children, and haven't worked out since the first 13 years ago. LOL Why now? Well, I am thin, but I want to be healthy. My question is this, many women around me take vitamins, and such. Should I be taking specific ones? Calcium, vit. B, what? I just don't know and I don't really want a pharmacy on my counter either... So my main question would be this. Can I take one multivitamin to help with everything? I have low iron as well. Thanks for any input. Hugs to you... Start;)

Multivitamins are a waste of money for someone that has a healthy diet. Even if you don't follow the healthy food guidelines vitamins are not a replacement for it. As for low iron you probably already know what is iron-rich but just in case: IRON RICH DIET (http://www.healthtouch.com/bin/EContent_HT/cnoteShowLfts.asp?fname=02039&title=IRON+RICH+DIET+&cid=HTHLTH)

I used to do long distance road cycling before I moved, got married and had kids. I'll slowly take it up again as they get more independent (and can ride with me!). I found that a healthy lefestyle begets healthy choices. When I was getting slightly competitive in the cycling I could eat practically anyhting since I burned so many calories but instead I chose the big salads, pasta, fruits, etc.

Good luck!

Thanks Karma, you are right. My diet has been something awful lately. I feel it is hard to but separatly for myself... everyone in the house likes meat, I can live with out it but I like it on occasion. I love beans, veggies, and fruit. I don't have a problem with eating the good stuff. I will go check out the low iron diet right now. I can't wait to get it back together again with my own body and mind set.

There's a lot of choices if your not much of a meat eater that will give you the protein and nutrients you need. Like shrimp, sardines, anchovies, spices like thyme, curry, cinnamon, rosemary, paprika-- oats and wheat bran, special K, sesame seeds, soya flour and beans, cashews, figs, lentils, apricots, hazelnuts, almonds, red kidney beans and . As long as you include healthy choices, like whole grains breads, cereals, rice and pasta, your getting a good supply of the most important vitamins and minerals, then add a variety of fruits and veggies. Like broccoli, spinach, blackeyed peas, chickpeas, pinto beans, raisins, To increase the amount of iron absorbed eat Vitamin C Foods. Citrus fruits, juices, tomatoes!

Thanks lovelesspa, I am considering changing my diet to it's fullest ability to be more healthy. My husband thinks I am a nutcase, but I love these kinds of food, and they are quick and much more healthy. I can't say I won't have my captain crunch, or my doritos, but I am going to enjoy some healthy eating! I just went and googled some great recipes for snacks and such. Thank you!

Everything in moderation. :)

One thing about cycling: it's great for the legs and butt but does little for the tummy. Might need to add some external excersises for that. (lucky hubby that you care enough to do this :D)

I noticed I misspelled moderation... Oh well, you know what I meant. I was typing too fast!
Anyway, yes, I am looking into the best things to do for my tummy... my back kills me but I think because mostly my muscles are so weak. My back is another reason for the exersice. Thanks Karma. He really could care less though (football is here), this is for ME!.
I have been googling all morning for a grocery list, I will be moving soon and would like to get started asap...

Good on you that you are doing it for yourself. Doing 'core' exercises is absolutely the best way to go to feel strong, core in this sense means the middle of your body (stomach/back) that has little skeletal support i.e. it's all muscle and spine. Here's a good site:
Core Strength Stability Training (http://sportsmedicine.about.com/cs/conditioning/a/aa052002a.htm)

Thanks, I just added it to faves, I will go check it out...
As soon as I am happy with the changes in a few months, I suppose I will find things that work well for me. I can't wait to get a jump on it! I really wanted to do kick boxing, but I feel I want more of a base condition first.

I have been taking vitamins for a few years now and have never felt better. I felt like 80 at 20 and now at 50 feel like 20. People are under the impression that if you eat good you do not need vitamins but with the food nowadays that is not necessarily true since most food is
Processed and full of chemicals and preservatives. Canned fruits and vegetables have the enzymes and vitamins cooked out of them.
It is also a waste of money to buy multivitamins because they do not dissolve in your system. Try putting a multivitamin in liquid and see how long it takes for it to even start to dissolve.
I take B complex and Gingko and anti-oxidents in the morning.
Then at night I take 600 mg calcium, 250 mg magnesium and vitamin D.
It is best to get vitamins in liquid, soft gel or capsule form whenever possible.

Nohelp, are all these single vitamins or do I get them separate? Goodness me, I don't know if I would be able to stuff all those down if they are separate!

It is best to not take a multi vitamin, but you can buy combinations like calcium with magnesium and vitamin D.
Mutli vitamins are not good at dissolving. Try putting one in a glass of lemon juice and see how long it takes to dissolve. Also some vitamins optimize others while some deplete them

So all separate... that is the bottom line in order to get the best quality effect! Thank you sweet, just wondered...
