Metoprolol is in a group of drugs called beta-blockers. Beta-blockers affect the heart and circulation (blood flow through arteries and veins). Weakness is not a side effect of this drug but drowsiness and dizziness are. If you are experiencing weakness (and be sure you are not confusing weakness with drowsiness ) I would strongly suggest that you see a cardiologist if you are not already doing so.

Metoprolol / toprol :
Does slow heart rate / pulse down - to reduce the workload of the heart,
But if it gets below 55 beats per minute you may feel tired, weak, dizzy.
This class of medicines can aggravate depression.

If you have fatigue and / or chest pain and/ or shortness of breath you need to see your doc asap.

If you have muscle pain - that may be a side effect of the crestor and /or tricor
