Hi,

I have a question about Windows XP. I'm wondering if I have to update all my software/hardware if I install windows XP. My present version is windows 98 Second Edition. My software/hardware includes OmniPage Pro 9, Epson 1660 photo scanner, a Samsung web camera, a Samsung printer, Sound Forge XP studio and Cake walk Pro V8, and update V 8.01. Can I use these things on Windows XP or do I just stick with Windows 98? Thanks

HI,
I really can't tell you to stick with 98/98SE or go to XP.

Here is a link that I think will answer all your questions. BE SURE you run the compatibility check before installing XP.
I still use Wiin98SE because some older graphics/photo programs will not run with XP.

Below is a very good explanation of how to install XP and what to look for beforehand.

I wish you the best,

Some hardware may not work. You'll need to reregister your soundforge XP studio, I think. And check if you have drivers for the scanner and printer, and the rest. Check the drivers that come with it and manufacturer's websites. You better of with Windows XP Pro

Microsoft provides an Upgrade Advisor that will tell you if any of your hardware/software will not work under XP. I had to update my soundcard and modem in my old machine when I upgraded. However drivers are now available for my older hardware.

So disphf if I was to tell you that I got a package PC from PC World that came with 98SE and have now installed XP Pro on it would you believe me. Well you have no choice because I did and have, the only slight proble that it experices is it's graphics card (ATI RAGE PRO with 8MB's of ram) which act's up on a few games like enemy Territory, but one thing if you up grade to XP I recommend that you get 256MB of ram at MINIMUM, I instaled XP on the package PC when it had 64MB of ram it was so slow for ages, then I got 512MB of ram for it now it's as fast as it'll probably ever go.
