Hello:

I'm 26 and have never been pregnant or had any gyn problems before. For the past few months, I have had bloody streaks in my cervical mucous accompanied by a slight, pinching pain on my lower left side. The pain sometimes radiates down my left thigh. My gynecologist told me that it was mid-cycle pain and nothing to worry about. She did a pelvic exam and Pap smear. Neither indicated any problems but she sent me for pelvic & transvaginal ultrasounds just in case. The ultrasounds noted a mild thickening of the endometrium lining, but she wasn't concerned because I was about a week away from my period.

I am having the pain/spotting randomly, not at midcycle, and it always lasts at least 4-5 days. I noticed the spotting/streaking gets heavier after I workout (running, cycling). My cycle has been irregular too (between 32-37 days the last few months) and my menstrual cramps have gotten worse - to the point that I feel like I might vomit or pass out. I have an appointment next week to discuss further diagnostic work (laproscopy or hysteroscopy) but in the mean time, I am concerned that I'm bleeding and in pain and so far my doctor has not been able to determine why. Could this be a polyp, fibroid, or endometriosis? How concerned should I be that this could be uterine or endometrial cancer, given my age, very good health, and no family history of gynecological cancers (that I know of)?

I can understand being scared. The important thing is, you are seeing your Physician when many women would ignore what you are experiencing. Try and relax your mind a bit; in my experience your symptoms do not necessarily indicate a cancer diagnosis, but considering I'm not a doctor, of course I can't say 100%. It is unlikely though, given your age and family hx.

*edit: hx = history

Thanks for your answer. I saw my doctor again yesterday and she wants to do a laproscopy to rule out endometriosis. Based on my symptoms and other diagnostic tests, she does not think there is reason to worry that it could be anything more serious.

Edit: To remove the quote of my first post.

I can't believe I just ran across this, I have been having the same thing but, my spotting is mid cycle and I have pain in my lower area front and back. I spot only mid cycle. I noticed when exercising I also spot but the times it happened are mid cycle. I had a full blood work up the first time and pap, pelvic all was fine, I am still doing it 3 years later, the only difference is I am 44. I thought it was ovulation which it can happen or Perimenopause, let me know what you find out. The only symptom you have that I do not is, feeling of throwing up or passing out. My cycle is normally 34 days apart and last 6 days the last 2 being next to nothing. We all have the same fear Cancer, that is the first thing a Dr. makes us feel it is asking us to have and endo biopsy. Yikes!
