A recent comment by another user brings up a fascinating thesis idea:

If you ask just about any knowledgeable person what the worst thing was that happened during WWII, they are most likely to tell you that it was the Holocaust, in which 6 million Jews were exterminated as a result of Hitler's implementation of the "Final Solution."

However, between 20 and 27 million Soviet citizens were killed in WWII as a result of Hitler's policy of "Lebensraum" (elbow room), in which the Slavic peoples to the East were also seen as inferior to the Arians and slated for extermination so that Germans could expand in their place.

How have we come to remember and honor the 6 million and yet have forgotten the 20 million?

Controversial but not nearly as "politically incorrect" as trying to argue that the Holocaust never occurred.

Other unwanteds included children with birth defects, Catholics, and even Germany's own residents who could not trace their family's genealogy back to, at the very least, 1750. Not pure enough for the Aryan Race, according to the Third Reich.
