I am moing into a small cape. All rooms are very small and the carpeting is dark green which I hate however can't afford to change right now. I love color however I know that I need to keep the walls light because the rooms are so small. Is it possible to have one wall a darker color and keep the room appearing as large as it possibly can? I am using lighter colored room rugs to cover the dark green for now. Any ideas or suggestions?

Paint the wall the color you want, but hang a large mirror on that wall, this will give the appearance of a much larger room.

If you love neon green, paint it what ever color you want. A home is for your enjoyment ( at least in my view) and I care little what is "proper" as for as home decorations go.

I think that dark green carpet would look beautiful! That is the color I want my walls in my family room. It is gorgeous! It doesn't matter that it is dark, you can lighten up the rest of the room by using a white paint that is tinted ever so slightly, you would hardly know it was a white green. Personally I think a cream color paint would be best for a particularly small room. Put one focal point piece that matched against your carpet (and cream if it is your paint color). I would get light colored furniture, and use cream, green and black accessories (cushions). Yes black, will seal the deal in a small room and make it appear "finished", and that will make your elegant room come together nicely.
