Late last year I filed bankruptcy but I recently requested it to be dismissed - I would rather try and go the debt settlement route. The biggest thing that I have is a repossessed car for about $22k - no major credit card debt. I am wondering how easy or difficult it will be for a DS company to work with the car financier. Has anyone ever had a repossession - or the balance from a repossession - resolved with a DS company? My troubles all stemmed from my last job being eliminated - I have since gotten employed and am trying to be on my way back to recovery. Now that the BK may be dismissed I fear garnishment and judgements the second creditors get wind of the dismissal...

I have spoken with several DS companies - trying to select the best one to assist with my situation...

The BK had been in effect for over 6 months!

Any advice?

I will assume you had a chapter 13 bankruptcy? Why after it is already on your record did you ask for it to be dismissed, since most likely it offered you the best repayment plan.

And of course now that you are working, and they know they can get a judgement and garnish you pay ( if you live in a state where they can do that) why should they take much of any deal at this point

Actually it was a Chapter 7 - and the filing process was taking a long time - I was able to save my home which was the biggest obstacle at that point. I had just started a new job so I did not want to bring my employer into any garnishment/judgement situation - the list goes on...

Now that my employer is going through a merger - I may not be employed for very long - massive layoffs are expected...

I guess I figured that although I filed - the voluntary dismissal may count toward something on the positive side...
