Need wiring directions to the following mess. 3 (old motor) verus 4 (new motor) wires and different colors to boot.

I have a Goodman Mfg. Compressor Model CK30 1B that had a GE P870S motor that went out. Old Capacitor (GE #97F9834) is a three plug version.

GE Motor Wiring: (Blk, Brn, and a Purple wire)
Old Capacitor: (#1 left Front, #2 right front, #3 Rear Center)... if you need furhter CAP specs let me know.

Old wire set-up with GE mortor:
Motor: Black wire------->Contactor T 1.
Motor: Solid Brown ---------> #3 rear Center Capacitor terminal.
Motor Purple ------------> #2 Right Front and big red lead goes from same post to T2.

Capacitor Wiring info:
#1 left Front: Yellow lead, from compressor.
#2 right front: Purple from motor and big red lead goes from same post to contractor T2.
#3 Rear Center: Solid brown motor wire.


Grangers suggested an AO Smith Model F48K92A01 for replacement and a Dayton (two prong) 2GE76 Capacitor. Here is the wiring Dia on the replacement motor.

Motor wiring:
Black wire: to "Line"
Yellow wire: to "Line"
Solid Brown Wire: to one side of Cap
Brown Wire with White stripe. Other side of Cap

Any help is appreciated.

Without going into the nitty gritty details. Any wires going to the compressor cap leave in place.

Wire the fan motor as suggested.

You'll end up adding an extra wire from the common terminal of the old capacitor and the other line lead of the motor.

The only thing I can tell you different is when you remove the old motor remove all of the wires from the old motor where ever they are connected. And then use the diagram above, connecting the two brown wires to the new capacitor and the black to the contactor, not on the line side but on the other side of the contactor (it may be marked T-1
The white wire will go on the other terminal of the contactor (may be marked T-2. Leave other wires where they were.

From the e-mail I got from you I think you have every thing right except one thing. I think you have the two motor wires from the motor connected to the wrong side of the contactor. These wires need to be on the opposite end of the contactor from the power lines coming into the unit from the outside lines. The contactor is what switches off the power to the fan motor and also to the compressor. Put the black on one terminal and the yellow on the other.
