We have a ceiling fan Model AC-552(ELC52WW5LKL) "GG". We were in the kitchen and one of the sockets for the lights caught on fire. We immediately hit the power button and the fire went out. My questions are:
1. Is the fan safe to use?
2. Is the fan company still in existence? I believe the model was made by Hamilton Bay.
3. Can the light sockets be repaired? Or should we throw the unit out?
4. Is there any liability from the original manufacturer?
Thanks

Once an electrical device has been involved in a fire, it must be taken out of service, and either repaired and tested, or discarded.
For the cost of fans nowadays, and the piece of mind I suggest you replace the fan.
What do you mean by "Is there any liability from the original manufacturer?"? This poses many other question, and may open a can of worms. Explain what you mean and I can elaborate.

Does Hamilton Bay still exist? And will they replace the fan? Do they want it back to see what caused the fire? If my wife and I were not in the room, the fire would have spread. Liability.. Will they pay for electrician, etc?

You may contact the maker of Hampton Bay fans :
I am sure they have a limited warranty.
You may be able to at least get a new fan.
If you want to push the issue, you will probably need to deal with their attorneys and prove that the fan was installed by a qualified person, and that the light bulb in the fan did not exceed the max rating of the socket.

King of Fans is one of many companies that makes, or has made, Hampton Bay fans.
TK brings up a good point-- what wattage bulb were you using?
