View Full Version : Problems with Power Saving in Win XP

So one day I was messing around with power saving options in Windows XP, and was saving different "power saving schemes", and when I clicked the drop down box (of all the schemes) it crashed. So I went back to it, only to find I had no schemes saved any more, and cannot save a new scheme, because the fields to enter how many minutes to wait for turning off hard disk and monitor are disabled. So, my last scheme was set to turn my monitor off after 2 minutes, and now I cannot change it, and it's driving me nuts. What can I do about it? Is there a command I could write into a command line to get this thing turned off or save a new scheme via command line?

As a side note, I know my way around computers, I'm programming in C and Java, so you don't have to explain the very basics :)

For anyone wondering what I'm talking about, here's the picture of the problem.

Notice how the listbox is empty, and how the fields for entering (choosing) minutes to turn off monitor/hard disk are disabled. How do I fix it?

Tried a system restore? Those schemes have to be saved somewhere. I'll give you a hand and see what I can dig up on Google.

Hi,
Here is a link:

Keep scrolling down to see one way to fix it, using Regedit.

I found this link through http://www.dogpile.com; great search engine.
Maybe it will help.
You can also find other good links using "dogpile", by typing in "xp power schemes gone", without quotes.
Best of luck,
fredg
