Greetings..
Firstly I would like to know if this site is for the USA or UK as my question is in regard to my house in the UK.
My ground floor is concrete and carpeted,I was thinking of changing to marble(creme marfil),but I was advised not to.the reason is in winter my heating bill will sore.how true is this?The first floor(where all bedrooms are)will be wooden(french oak)...

As far as answering your question according to what is best where you live, then hopefully people will come along who know about what is best where you live.

My thought right now is, that generally, homes with carpeted floors will retain the heat better than those with no carpets. Just my take on it right now. Perhaps someone will come along with a better explanation though. The floors in my home are almost all of wood. My home does not tend to be warm in the Winter.

Carpet does in fact offer somesort of insulating factor. Hardwoods tend to be slightly warmer than vinyls or laminates. Ceramic tile seems to me just transfers the temp of the concrete straight to your feet. Im not sure about marble but I imagine its about the same. I have installed a lot of carpet and vinyl over the years some hardwood and tile as well so this is based on the differences I have noticed not on any factual data.
