We received a Collection agency notice.in May.. I DO NOT OWE THIS MONEY. My son does and(he filed bankrupty a while back 3 years I believe) but our names are similar. I sent a notification for validatiion to them in May15 .They sent back a letter with 3 numbers from a Social Security Number (not even 4) and I think it was an address dated May 07. We have never lived there and that is not my social. APPARENTLY THE VALIDATION LETTERAND THE FIRST LETTER WE SENT THE SAME TIME SO THEN WE RECOIEVD A SECOND LETTER ON May 23 ,They said before that we were being frivolous and irrelevant after writing them. No word from them all summer now another letter. What should we do now send another validation number requesting more info.
This is clearly not our debit because of the Social and we have never had a card with that company and that social we checked with the company it was issued with. My name and my sons are similar and I thinksomehow they put his name on the account and not mind but the adddress are different because my son moved out and then back again but the social is different from mine What to do? Without putting my sons name out there to them if possible?

I would not worry about a collection agency. Bottom line is all they want is the money and they don't care how they get it. They will try many different tatics such as trying to collect from family calling your employer. Basically they are scum of the earth punks. If they call you and send you letters telling you they will sue you. Ignore them those are empty threats they will not sue you cause it would cost them more to sue you then what they would receive from you. Just f them

This is from September 2007 and there wsa no follow up posted - don't know if the person who posted is still reading.

(And I wouldn't count on not being sued, by the way.)
