Hi,

I live in California. I was previously the sole owner of a 2001 VW golf, which I had bought outright brand new. I had recently added my wife's name to the title in order to obtain cheaper insurance rates (it was as simple as getting her signature), but now I would like to return to the title as the sole owner (I anticipate a separation). Is there some slicker way of doing this at the DMV if I show them an old registration tag or perhaps the sales receipt with my name on it (I had to surrender the old title for the new one), or am I completely hosed and now have to negotiate with my wife to reclaim the car as the sole owner?(

Thanks for the input,

She's a part owner and would have to agree to the transfer. Anything else is fraud.

I believe ScottGem's advise is correct, you have to have her signature. Also, I am not sure that by adding her name to the title saved you any insurance premiums. It's not in whose name the vehicle is titled that determines the rate, it's who is driving the veh, their gender, age, driving record, etc.

Yes, in divorce court if they award you the car, it will order her to sign over her part ot you. Or you can just ask her to sign the title back over
